What is a Veterinary Pathologist?
A veterinary pathologist is a doctor of veterinary medicine who specializes in the diagnosis of diseases by examining animal tissue and body fluids. They determine the cause of disease through laboratory analysis and observation, as well as by performing necropsies or biopsies and by using specialized pieces of laboratory equipment and microscopes. The veterinary pathologist will then advise the veterinarian about the disease or diseases they detect. A veterinary pathologist may also conduct scientific research studies, advise government agencies as to the spread and progression of various animal diseases and also contribute to the development of drugs and other animal health products.
