Also needed is the ability to manage server hardware, operating systems, cloud architecture, and storage. Disaster recovery specialists need exceptional communication skills, as they must interact with a variety of staff members, work in a team environment, and convey recovery plans to others.
Many employers seek individuals who possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, and who have had previous experience in the field. A master's degree may be required for some positions. Depending on the organization and exact position, four or more years of work in disaster recovery or system administration may be necessary.
